Max Skill 1 first as the core of your damage and mobility, then Skill 2 for its Stun to increase your burst.
Trades built on the Skill 1 auto-attack cancel (the fast combo) and your passive are very strong. You have kill pressure from level 1. At the level 3 and level 5 power spikes, go for solo kills.
Use your mobility to shove side lanes, then enter the enemy jungle to pick off isolated targets. In skirmishes, cycle the Skill 3 shield and your short CC to deal full damage while limiting what you take.
Your teamfight presence depends heavily on Flash. With Flash up, play as an assassin who goes for the enemy carry. Without it, play as a bruiser who protects your team on the frontline.
Activate Ult and surprise the enemy from out of vision or over a wall. Go in with Flash into the third cast of Skill 1, or with Skill 2. Stop them with the AoE stun and knock-up, then collect kills with Ult's Wind Slash.
Do not press Skill 1 three times in a row without weaving in auto-attacks. Riven's passive adds damage to the auto-attack after each skill. The skill into auto into skill cancel combo is essential, and you will not win trades without it. With Ult active at level 5, that burst grows even larger.
Cancel the animation of Skill 1 with a move command to squeeze in autos.
Input Skill 3 and Ult together to cancel the animation, then kill them through the CC chain.

A three-step guide set by the official champion library. For difficulty, a higher number means harder to play.
Critical damage is 200% for every champion. These figures exclude items and runes.
Our take
Bonus damage against champions drops by 10%, so Riven's trading power in lane and in skirmishes clearly falls. At the same time her jungle modifier rises from 50% to 65%, which speeds up her clear. Jungle Riven is pushed toward farming first and picking her fights carefully. In the baron lane she only gets the downside, so reading when to trade and when to back off matters more.
