Prioritize Skill 1, which directly boosts your damage and clear speed, then strengthen your CC with Skill 2.
Viego Strengths
✓A one-of-a-kind passive that borrows enemy abilities
✓Untargetability and big healing on takedowns
✓Snowball potential from back-to-back Ult resets
Viego Weaknesses
×Requires knowledge of every champion's kit
×The real body is squishy and melts to burst
×Struggles without that first takedown
Viego Early Game
Your passive needs kill participation, but your early duels are not strong. Start with a safe full clear. Take only ganks that will clearly land, and build gold steadily.
Viego Mid Game
The mid game, full of skirmishes, is where Viego shines. Pick up a kill or assist and possess the enemy's soul to heal and reset Ult. Chain kills to win the fight.
Viego Late Game
With a full build you have both assassin burst and fighter DPS. If focused, though, you still melt quickly. Play like an assassin and clean up the enemies your team has already chunked.
Viego Teamfights
Rather than diving first, play like an assassin and wait for your team's engage to lower enemy HP. Once you get that first kill, the momentum shifts. Use the untargetability from the passive to take enemies down one after another.
⚠️ Common Mistakes
Possessing every soul on sight with the passive (Sovereign's Domination)
A takedown does not mean you should possess the soul without thinking. Possession makes you untargetable for a moment. But taking over a low-damage support or mage strips away Viego's own damage and stalls you in the teamfight. If your HP is fine, stay in your own body and keep attacking. Another option is to possess only to cast Ult and leave right away.
Viego Combos
Basic Trade
Open with the stun from Skill 2, then alternate skills and empowered autos.

This skill table was checked against the in-game text on 2026-08-15. Changes from 7.3, 7.3a have been applied from the official patch notes.
Passive
Sovereign's Domination
The souls of enemy champions that die within 3 second(s) of being damaged by Viego become wraiths that remain in place for 8 second(s). Viego can channel for 1 second(s) to Possess them for 10 second(s). During Possession: · Becomes untargetable · Gains a free cast of Heartbreaker · Gains 10% bonus Movement Speed when moving toward enemy champions · Gains access to the Possessed champion's basic abilities, attacks, and items · Heals for 5% (5 + 4% bonus AD + 2%AP + 5% per 100% bonus Attack Speed) of the target's max HP. Viego cannot use the Possessed champion's enchantment item actives.
Skill 1
Blade of the Ruined King
⏳ 4.5s
Passive: Attacks deal bonus physical damage equal to 3% of the target's current HP. After damaging an enemy with an ability, Viego's first attack against them within 5 second(s) strikes twice, dealing 10 physical damage (15%AD + 15%AP) and healing himself for 135% of the damage dealt. Passive bonuses are kept during Possession. Active: Stabs forward, dealing physical damage ((25 + 70%AD) × (1 + 60% × Critical Rate + (Critical Damage - 2) × Critical Rate × 60%)). Attacks deal at least 10 bonus damage. This ability's cast time reduces with Attack Speed. The current-HP damage and the second strike crit for current Critical Damage × 85%.

Heartbreaker
⏳ 90s
Teleports to a target location nearby, dealing physical damage equal to (120%AD × (1 + 70% × Critical Rate + (Critical Damage - 2) × Critical Rate × 70%)) to all champions in the area. Deals bonus damage equal to (14 + 5% bonus AD)% of the target's missing HP to the enemy champion with the lowest percentage of HP, slowing them by 99% for 0.25 second(s) and knocking back enemies nearby them. Heartbreaker applies on-hit effects to the primary target and ability effects to the others.
Blade of the Ruined King's passive current-Health damage goes up by 1 point at every rank, and its crit multiplier rises from 80% to 85%. Heartbreaker's crit scaling goes from 50% to 70%, so it gains more from crit items.
His crit interactions are pulled back: both the current-Health portion and the second hit of Blade of the Ruined King take only 80% of your Critical Damage, offsetting the higher base.
He loses 2 base Attack Damage and 0.3 per level, Sovereign’s Domination heals 5% instead of 7%, and Harrowed Path gives 10 points less Attack Speed at every rank.

Our take
The passive's current-HP scaling loses 1% at every rank, so Viego grinds down high-HP targets more slowly. Because he chases with weaved basic attacks, that 1% adds up the longer a fight runs. Heartbreaker's radius shrinks from 3 to 2.75, demanding a more precise commit to catch a group. Hitting several enemies at once in a teamfight is simply harder now.
Both the opening and the finisher come down. The weaker thrust on Blade of the Ruined King slows his jungle clear and takes a chunk out of his first hit, while the smaller area damage on Heartbreaker reduces what he gets out of diving into a group. Staying in the fight after a takedown still works; getting that first takedown is the harder part now.
