Thornmail patch history
Figures are as written in the official patch notes; the commentary is ours.
Thornmail
Patch 7.2Thorns
- Damage Reflected from Bonus HP2% → 1%
Our take
The HP scaling on reflected damage is halved, so a health-stacking tank no longer grinds down auto-attackers just by standing there. Marksmen and fighters take less risk swinging into a Thornmail holder and can commit to straight exchanges more readily. On the tank's side, Thornmail goes back to being bought for the AR rather than for the reflect.
Thornmail
Patch 7.1cMagic Damage
- 20 + 6% Bonus AR + 2% Bonus HP → 20 + 6% Bonus AR + 1% Bonus HP
Our take
Halving the bonus HP scaling from 2% to 1% hits health-stacking tanks hardest. The bonus AR portion is untouched, so Thornmail leans further toward being an armor item that shuts attackers down rather than one that punishes them for hitting you. It chips away at an enemy AD carry far less, which means leaving the actual killing to your team. Builds that paired it with heavy health items are worth revisiting.
