Level Skill 1 first as your main damage source, then Skill 3 to increase your burst damage.
Until Level 5 you need to endure, especially against ranged matchups. Use Skill 2 (Twilight Shroud) to farm safely and preserve HP. Once you unlock Ult at Level 5, look for an all-in to take the kill.
From the mid game on, you are very strong in skirmishes and side-lane 1v1s. Use your mobility to roam to other lanes, stack kills, and build your snowball. The goal is to close out the game before the enemy carries scale.
Before teamfights start, push out a side lane and take a flank position behind the enemy. Entering from the front gets you chain-CC'd and killed instantly. For Akali, the timing of your entry decides the fight.
Wait until your tanks and initiators have absorbed the enemy's key CC. The moment those abilities are down, dive the backline with Ult. Drop focus with the Skill 2 shroud and take out the enemy ADC or mage to turn the fight.
Before Level 5, Akali has no Ult and is not built for forced trades. A common beginner loss is poking too hard, losing HP, and dying to the enemy jungler. Until Level 5, use Skill 2 (Twilight Shroud) as cover and focus on CS and HP. Counterattack once you have Ult.
Hit with the tip of Skill 1 for a slow, step outside the ring, then land an empowered auto.
Dash in with the first Ult cast and mark with Skill 3. Recast Skill 3 to leap, shroud with Skill 2 while firing Skill 1, then execute with the second Ult cast.

Our take
Akali disappears faster once she steps into the smoke, with the fade time dropping from 0.8s to 0.67s, which shrinks the window where she is still visible and still standing there. Vanishing in front of someone who just dove her and repositioning becomes a far more reliable trick. On top of that, the first cast of Shuriken Flip can mark the Twilight Shroud smoke, giving her a way to reset her distance — or close it again — without leaving cover. Both changes serve escaping and re-engaging equally, widening what Akali can do in a fight.
